Switzerland’s residents are big air travelers, flying three times as often as the average european, according to WWF.
When respondents were asked: Would you change your future flying habits to save the environment? 32% said “Yes, I will fly less often”, and 8% said “Yes, I will no longer fly”.
The number of passengers at Geneva airport was lower for 4 out the first 5 months of 2019 compared to the same period in 2018, a sign that travelling habits might be changing.
In Sweden, the number of people flying has declined. In 2018, there was no growth in numbers and the beginning of 2019 saw a 5% decline compared to the same period of 2018, according to WWF.
WWF offers tips for reducing flying, such as opting for the train when travelling in Europe, and avoiding flights where you spend less than one week at the destination per hour flown.
