The publication of President’s Instruction No. 8 / 2018 about Palm Oil Moratorium becomes the important thing for the government to get the data about the width of planted and forest conservation that could be the smallholders’ plantations.
In addition, based on the data result supervised by Corruption Eradication Commission (CEC), the palm oil plantation licenses that have been published reached 20 million hectares. But based on the satellite image result, the planted palm oil areas reached 16,83million hectares. It means that 3,2million hectares are not developed yet or as the landbank.
General Director of Plantation, Ministry of Agriculture, Bambang said, the gap would be evaluated for they are not developed yet. He also mentioned that from the data in the ministry, there are about 2,5 million hectares to be verified. “If in the next year, there would be new data about palm oil areas nationally, they would not be new plantings but the addition of the verification result,” he recently said.
The statistic data in the Ministry of Agriculture revealed that the palm oil plantations until now reach about 14,31million hectares, that consist of, the smallholders’ plantations reach 5,81 million hectares; the country’s plantations reach 713.000 hectares; and the privates’ reach 7,79 million hectares. The realization of the smallholders’ plantation development since 2007 reached 623.114 hectares from the target in 2017 reaching 874.398 hectares.
