The National Green Tribunal (NGT) constituted a committee to inspect plastic industries in Narela and Bawana, that are allegedly causing pollution.
A Bench headed by NGT Chairperson Adarsh Kumar Goel directed the committee to file the report within one month.
The committee will comprise of representatives from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), the Bench said.
Directing the committee to “look into the issue”, the Bench said: “Allegation is that pollution is being caused by the plastic industry making shoes. They are not maintaining the pollution and waste management norms. They are throwing their industrial waste here and there in the area which is creating a problem for the residents and the environment and is a health hazard.”
The directions came while the green panel was hearing a plea that sought action against plastic industries making shoe soles and other highly inflammable items in the area.
The plea further alleged that the industries were disposing of the waste in an indiscriminate manner.
The Bench also reiterated that non-compliance with the order is actionable by way of punitive action under the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010.
