Safety Kleen Systems, a Texas-based hazardous waste disposal company, has been fined $260,900 for multiple violations of Oregon environmental laws at its facility in Clackamas, officials said Thursday.
The company, at 16540 S.E. 130th Ave., is accused of failing to properly label barrels of potentially flammable liquids, storing asbestos-containing waste without a proper permit and failing to provide the proper insurance for its operations, among other violations, according to the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.
After Safety Kleen was informed of the violations, it “properly labeled its hazardous waste, submitted a waste management plan to accept asbestos and applied for the required solid waste permit,” state officials said in a news release. The violations occurred between 2013 and 2018, according to the state.
